Psalm 113:2-3 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time on and forever. From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised.
Oh, what a privilege to know that Jesus is Lord, for in Philippians 2:9-11. Paul declares that God gave Christ the name above all names, so that in the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord, AND we also know that Jeremiah prophesied in Chapter 23:5-6 that the Messiah, the Christ, who was to come from the branch of David, was to be called the LORD our Righteousness!
But sadly the name of Jesus gets misused worldwide, almost from the rising of the sun to its setting, instead of the praises it ought to receive.
Psalm 113 in its whole gives us a glimpse into the glory of the Lord, and once again we get to see the full picture. Yes, behold who Christ is, because Hebrews 1:3 beautifully testifies: "And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power." We will most definitely praise His name!
That's why Psalm 113 wants to convey the glory of God by asking us, "WHO IS LIKE THE LORD OUR GOD?"
In verse 6 we get to see the Lord stooping down to look at heaven and earth, as the Psalmist also used the Hebrew word "shaphel", which means "to humble yourself".
And that's exactly what Christ did when He became flesh and became one of us, as Philippians 2 spells out that Christ humbled Himself and came as a Servant to serve us!
Oh, and then the Psalmist prophetically revealed the Lord even further in verses 7 and 8 by declaring this great news: "He raises the poor from the dust; He lifts the needy from the garbage heap to seat them with noblemen, with the noblemen of His people."
Oh, there is no one like the Lord Jesus, no one.
The Lord of all people came to lift us up out of the dust and placed us into a position of honour and hope to live from all by His lovingkindness and mercy towards us!
Maybe you feel flat on the ground in the dust or hopeless at the moment, but I have good news for you: Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever, and He still lifts people up, and still brings them from ashes into a position of true hope.
Who is like the Lord, like Jesus? No one.
So why would we NOT want to praise the Name of the Lord Jesus all the time?
Amen.
