Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
Just like King David of old, we all have cares, or as David wrote, יְהָב (yehab) things that literally in so many words come upon you, and you just seem to emotionally start carrying them.
That's why we must carefully note what David wrote: only 1 thing we ought to do with our cares, only 1 thing!
Throw, cast, and aim specifically at is what the Hebrew word הַשְׁלֵ֤ךְ (hashlek) means! Throw, cast your burden like a stone!
Oh, but wait, not onto others or like many think into the sea, no no, David reminded us of whom...the Lord.
That is the 1 thing we ought to do with our cares, our burdens: cast it, throw it to the Lord.
Because David reveals unto us what happens when we do so, because according to Psalm 55 the Lord will sustain us and never let the righteous waver!
No wonder our brother Peter used David's exact words years later when he addressed those in Christ with the words, "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you" (1 Pet 5:7).
On Him, on Jesus, He is Lord!
So let me ask you this morning in the light of what I myself was reminded off: What are you doing with your cares, your burdens, your problems?
Are you clinging onto then and try to carry them, or are you throwing them towards the wrong people causing hurt and more trouble?
Christ cares for us!
He will sustain us and promise to let the righteous never shake!
David and Peter, 2 well known figures in Scripture reminds us to cast our burdens unto only 1 Person, onto the Lord, because He cares for us, and will not let us waver and stumble under the weight of the cares!
What are you going to do with the burdens and cares in your life, because everyday is a new opportunity to cast all those cares onto Jesus, throwing them unto Him who sets us free and sustains us and causes us to stand firm all because He cares for us.
Amen
